What percentage of the United States has Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes?

PLEASE... As the parent of two Type 1 Diabetic children, I wish you would refer to diabetes as type 1 or 2. Writing questions like this continues to confuse people. I cannot tell you how many people ask me when my children will outgrow this disease... Or ask me if they ate a lot of sugar, and that is why they are diabetic. The medical community could do more to educate folks!! Thanks...

This is a great question; the problem is that the answer is not as simple as we think. Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in some cases becomes full blown Type 1 over time or under some circumstances. Type 1 sometimes goes into a "honeymoon" phase where it is less aggressive. So the bottom-line is, as long as we continue to monitor the numbers and look at each case individually we will avoid complications.

The correct answer is B! 40 percent of Americans have either Diabetes or Pre-Diabetes.
