Dancing for Your Heart Health and Waist

September 3, 2010
If you’ve ever watched the show “Dancing with the Stars” then you’ve seen the transformation that results when a lot of dancing is done consistently over several weeks. It can work wonders on a person’s figure. The Celebrity Diet Doctor says that, for example, Kelly Osbourne lost 14 pounds during the first 6 weeks of rehearsals, and singer Mya lost 11 pounds in 4 weeks, but she’s toned her muscles too.

couple dancing for healthy It’s such a great way to lose weight that former DWTS finalist, Mel B., now hosts a show that is all about weight loss through competitive dance. It’s on the Oxygen network and it’s called “Dance Your A** Off”. No, really!  It is! Spelled just like that!  Here’s what their website says:

"Dance Your A** Off" features talented, full-figured contestants who struggle with their weight and dance to unleash their inner thin. Last season, the contestants’ “thinspiration" resulted in more than 500 lbs. lost. The series pairs each contestant with a professional dance partner who trains them for their weekly stage performances. Then they burn up the dance floor and calories in front of a live studio audience and a panel of expert judges. The judges score the routines, and then the contestants weigh in to reveal their weekly weight loss. The dance score and the weight loss are combined for an overall score, which determines who is sent home each week.

If the show “The Biggest Loser” looks like too much work and not enough fun, maybe DYAO will offer you the “thinspiration” you need to dance your excess weight off, get heart healthy exercise and have fun doing it. It’s certainly worth a try!
