I was thinking of green, heart healthy recipes that I could prepare in celebration of the coming of spring months, and I remembered a few unusual juices I tried on a trip to South Asia. One was a combination of lime and mint--very green, but not overly sweet and incredibly refreshing on a warm day.
Another surprise was avocado juice, which is thick like a smoothie and sweetened. We tend of think of the avocado as a vegetable that goes on salads, sandwiches and into guacamole, but worldwide, it’s often treated as a fruit.
It has a neutral flavor and a creamy texture that makes it a healthy replacement for dairy products in smoothies, and sugar brings up hints of floweriness in the flavor. Alternatively, I’ve seen it served in a bowl with molasses-like syrup or dark brown sugar on top. Avocados have many varieties and are heart healthy! Plus less refined syrups and sugars contain minerals that can enhance your health while satisfying a sweet tooth. It’s much healthier than ice cream!
I did a search on recipes with avocado, lime and mint for you, and came up with some interesting suggestions.
