Foods that Fight Fat for a Healthy Life

May 23, 2011

Caring.com’s article Weight Loss After 40 suggests that you trick your metabolism with fat fighting foods.

Foods for hearth healthYou've heard it before, but it's true: It's not just about how much you eat, but how much of which foods. There are plenty of healthy foods you can eat all you want of -- and no, that doesn't mean stuffing your fridge with celery sticks, 1970s-style. Instead, make a few simple tweaks to your diet, incorporating foods that actually fight fat instead of those that trigger it. Then eat other foods in moderation, and you should be OK.

Self.com recommends these eight:

  1. Almonds - Dieters who ate 3 ounces of these nuts every day reduced their weight and body-mass index by a solid 18 percent!
  2. Berries
  3. Cinnamon
  4. Mustard
  5. Oranges
  6. Soy beans
  7. Sweet potatoes
  8. Swiss cheese

Women’s Health Magazine recommends:

  • Berries
  • Turkey
  • Enova Oil - made from soy and canola oils — is made of diglycerides, a type of fat that's metabolized differently from triglycerides (found in other oils — even olive) and so not stored as fat as easily. In a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, dieters who used Enova lost more weight than those who used other oils.
  • Peanuts
  • Low Fat Yogurt
  • Breakfast Cereal

HowToBeFit.com recommends:

  • Apples
  • Beans
  • Dairy
  • Oatmeal - a great source of the essential fatty acid GLA, and it contains a cholesterol-fighting combination of fiber, protein, and complex carbohydrates.
  • Nuts and Seeds

And for those interested in muscle building too, these 5 Fat Fighting Foods That Should Be the Backbone of Your Diet:

  • Beef
  • Cottage Cheese
  • Blueberries
  • Broccoli
  • Salmon - provides heart healthy Omega-3 fats, a hefty dose a metabolism- boosting protein, and a nice dose of natural vitamins and minerals. And it has anti-inflammatory powers!
