Ruining Your Heart Health - Part 2

You may have certain unhealthy habits that can increase your risk of heart disease, and you should try your best to prevent them from ruining your heart. In our last article we discussed two ways to ruin your heart health. Here are four more ways that you can hurt your heart health:

3.) Ignore the flutters in your heart

A flutter in your heart is no big deal if it happens for one second and goes away. This can be caused by the consumption chocolate, caffeine, and cold medications or asthma. However, if the fluttering occurs frequently and causes breathing difficulty and chest discomfort or makes you feel like you are going to faint, it can be symptom of heart arrhythmia. It means that your heart is experiencing an electrical problem, and it is beating either too fast or too slow. In this case, it is best that you seek medical attention as soon as possible.

The American Heart Association ranks smoking as the top preventable cause of premature death among Americans. Smoking can contribute greatly to your risk of heart disease, because it can cause blood clots, increase blood pressure, and reduce your fitness level. It can be very difficult to quit smoking, but if you manage to do so, you can gain great and immediate health benefits.

5.) Lead a lazy lifestyle

Being a couch potato can make you more vulnerable to heart disease. If you want to have a healthy heart, you should become more physically active. Exercise can improve your cholesterol levels, lower blood pressure, promote weight loss, and reduce stress, and it can certainly help you live longer.

6.) Ignore pain in your chest

Pain in the chest can be caused by muscle strain and indigestion, but it can also be an indication of heart attack. If you experience chest pains while you are exercising, it is likely that you are suffering from some kind of heart problem. If you are feeling great pressure on your chest and sweating profusely, you have to seek medical assistance immediately. The only way to find out for sure if your chest pains are a symptom of heart disease is to go for a medical checkup.
