Everybody should get flu vaccination before the beginning of the flu season. This is especially essential if you are above the age of 65 and you have conditions that make you susceptible to heart disease, such as high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Follow a healthy diet
Go easy on high-fat, high-sugar, and high-calorie foods during the holiday season. Eating healthy foods such as whole grains, fruits and vegetables, lean meats, and unsaturated fats can help you reduce your blood pressure and cholesterol levels, and control your weight.
Dressing warm does not help you maintain the right body temperature; it can also prevent hypothermia and heart failure. Wear clothes that can trap air and provide protective insulation, as well as hat, gloves, and winter shoes or boots to prevent heat from escaping through your head, hands, and feet.
Warm up before going outdoors
To maintain a consistent body temperature during winter, perform light exercise, such as stationary jogging, or dynamic stretching before you head outdoors.
Cocoa contains high amounts of heart healthy flavonoids and phenols, which can help your muscles recover after physical activity.
Make time to relax
It is important that you spend enough time relaxing during winter. Give yourself at least half an hour of “me” time every day, which you can spend listening to music, reading a book, or meditating. This will help you get rid of stress and rejuvenate your body and mind.
