Myth 3: Since I have a very busy and stressful lifestyle, I am bound to have a heart attack sooner or later.
Fact: While it is widely believed that a busy and stressful lifestyle is detrimental to health, some studies have suggested that people with Type A personality may not necessarily be more vulnerable to heart disease. However, certain habits and conditions that are common in people with such personality, such as smoking, lack of exercise, and high blood pressure, can raise the risk. You can prevent or control heart disease by getting rid of unhealthy habits, observing a healthy diet, and exercising regularly.
Myth 4: Heart attacks only happen to middle-aged and elderly people.
Fact: Most women have some protection against heart disease before they reach menopause. However, risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, smoking, and being overweight can make you susceptible to heart problems even before menopause. Heart attacks can even happen to women who are in their 20s or 30s.
Myth 5: As long as my weight and cholesterol levels are normal, I will not get heart disease.
Fact: Having a healthy weight and normal cholesterol levels can improve artery health and help prevent heart disease, but they are not the only factors that can affect your heart health. There are many other factors that can contribute to the development of heart disease, and they include age, family history, diabetes, high blood pressure, sedentary lifestyle, stress, depression, and smoking. You have to take all these risk factors into consideration to determine your risk accurately.
