A Holiday Recipe to Try: Applesauce Nut Bread

We asked our Facebook fans to submit their favorite holiday recipes. If you are looking for a new side dish to share with your family and friends during the holiday season, try Applesauce Nut Bread. It’s a guaranteed crowd pleaser and the perfect side dish to complement your meal. 

Applesauce Nut Bread

Yields: 12 servings
Prep Time: 30 minutes
Cooking Time: 1 hour
 

Ingredients:

  • Crisco Original No Stick Cooking Spray
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ cup Crisco Pure Vegetable Oil
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 3 large egg whites
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 3 tablespoon skim milk
  • ½ cup chopped walnuts
  • 2 cups flour
  • Salt and pepper
     

Directions

Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Spray a 9x5x3” loaf pan with no stick cooking spray. Combine sugar, applesauce, oil, egg whites and skim milk in large bowl. Mix thoroughly. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg. Combine until all ingredients are well blended. Stir in chopped walnuts. Spread batter in prepared pan. Bake 60-70 minutes. Place pan on cooling rack 10 minutes. Remove from pan and cool completely.
